The Town Council and I extend our appreciation to Gov. Lamont for his quick action to extend support to CT LAndmarks as it recovers from the theft and vandalism at the Hale Homestead. The press release is attached under Chair Report. The perpetrator’s actions were particularly violent and destructive, leaving us stunned. Site Administrator Anne Marie Charland and her team have done incredible work cleaning up the debris and putting things back together. Thanks as well to the many citizens who have donated funds toward replacing what was stolen and installing additional security systems.
Camp Inspire is a the new camp that is up and running at the former Channel 3 Kids Camp. It is run by the Justice Education Center. The camp will celebrate the end of its first season on Friday, August 21 from 10:00-3:00. Executive Director Sherry Haller invites all Town Council members to stop by to see how the camp has been renovated and learn more about the children and groups it serves. You can join for a picnic lunch from 11:30 - 1:00. The flyer is attached under Chair Report. I encourage those who are able to drop in and see the extent of work that Justice Education Center have done. For those who aren’t able to stop in, Sherry is very willing to set up a time with you to visit and have a tour.
August 29 is Coventry’s Arts on Main celebration from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. There are many musical, visual, and participatory events planned. Later in the evening, the Coventry Playwrights Collective is performing at the David Hayes Sculpture Fields on South St. That event runs 6-7:30 p.m.
