Town Council Chair Report 3/16/2026

  • Farewell to our Human Services Administrator Annemarie Sundgren who is moving on to new life adventures.  Many thanks to Annemarie for serving our town with professionalism and compassion.

  • Speaking of human services, I want to take a moment to highlight the many ways that the Coventry Senior center supports our community.  You can sign up to receive the newsletter via email, you can pick up a copy at the senior center, or you can look at their facebook page.

  • I would like to call your attention to three items attached under my Chair report:

    • First is the flyer announcing the observance of National Vietnam War Veterans Day, which will be held at the CT Vietnam War Veterans Memorial on the Coventry Memorial Green. The ceremony is on Sunday, March 29, at 2:00 p.m.

    • Second are two piece of legislative testimony that I submitted. One is to the Planning and Development Committee in support of more flexible use of Town Aid Roads (TAR) funds. The other is to the Human Services Committee in support of increasing Medicaid reimbursement for ambulance services by adjusting the out-of-district mileage calculation for such services.

    • Councilor Blanchard has in the past questioned my submitting testimony from the Town, expressing her wish that she had more information. I want to reiterate that the Council approved by consensus the CRCOG legislative priorities; the testimony I submit as Council Chair is testimony that supports those priorities. Those priorities are attached to past Council minutes and can be viewed on the CRCOG web ite.

  • Today you should have received a forwarded email invitation to join a conference at EastCONN this Friday focused on ways to develop regional municipal partnerships, shared services and other collaborations. If you are interested in participating, you must register. There is no cost to attend. I had planned to go but need to take care of another commitment.

  • Congratulations to the CHS girls and boys varsity basketball teams for their ongoing March Madness success! I am looking forward to cheering both teams on tomorrow at Manchester High School - the boys at 5 and the girls at 7.
