Town Council Chair Report 4/6/202

  • Last week Coventry lost a remarkable member of the community, Norman Meyers. One of the many ways he impacted Coventry was through over a decade of volunteer service to Coventry Youth Basketball. He developed the Instructional Program, served as an active board member, including writing up program rules and regulations, coached both recreational and travel teams, and officiated countless games. Norm’s family will host a Celebration of Life to honor his wish to bring people together in joy and remembrance. The celebration will be held at Hops 44 in Storrs, on Monday, April 13th at 4:00pm. All those whose lives have been touched by Norm are invited to join in remembering Norm by sharing stories and laughter together. The family asks that folks who wish to contribute in his name, consider donating to the Connecticut Brain Tumor Alliance Inc. at www.ctbta.org Please join me in a quiet moment of remembrance.

Attached to my report is testimony supporting CT dairy producers. Town resident, and operator of Hytone Farm, Greg Perrachio reached out to me about the draft legislation. As Coventry continues to support local businesses and smart economic growth, it is important to advocate for our local producers.

Last week the home shooting range safety ordinance was repealed and is not in effect. It was good to see so many people at the special town meeting exercising their first amendment rights. That is what democracy looks like.

Tonight the Town Council will vote on a budget proposal to send to referendum. Please not that the Town Council adopted budget will be reviewed at Annual Town Meeting on Saturday, April 25th, 10 a.m. in Veterans Auditorium. I encourage all voters to attend and learn about what is in the budget that will be adjourned to referendum.
